The Story Of James Murgatroyd

James sadly and suddenly passed away on 14th October 2016, a very much loved son of Gary & Rose and brother to Paul & Amy and partners Francesca and Joe, also a loving partner to Chloe. We all miss him terribly as he was a big part of all of our lives. Unknown to us all James had an undetected heart problem that showed no signs or symptoms. He lived his life the best he knew how – Running, swimming, playing his drums and enjoying nights out. James was a home bird and loved to be at home around his family and friends and we loved him to be there too.

There was not many days went by without James making us laugh, he had this amazing ability to just make you feel better. He had a laid back attitude to most things, as all who knew James would tell you that! A talented musician – loved playing his drums and guitar and enjoyed his time as drummer in his band ‘Kickliner’. He has an amazing group of friends, some he known all his life, some he made along the way. We discovered just how many at James’s funeral where it was bursting with people, such a comfort to us.

You may be able to imagine, it has been the most terrible time for us all to not have James around anymore. He has left us with a very empty void in our hearts that will always be there.

We feel although we couldn’t help James, maybe just maybe, we can begin to try and help other young people by raising awareness to get their heart checked out. The charity C.R.Y (Cardiac Risk in the Young) are constantly trying to arrange screening of young people between the ages of 14 and 35 to detect heart problems and hopefully help to avoid sudden deaths like James.

Please come along to the event on the reverse of this leaflet, the Venue is a place James’s band played and all proceeds will go straight to C.R.Y. to help with their research and hopefully fund screening vans to visit your area.

Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. Since its formation in 1995, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). CRY promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds medical research. CRY publishes and distributes medical information written by leading cardiologists for the general public.
