Musicians’ Help Truro Drummer
Musicians from across the country have rallied round a Truro drummer donating hundreds of pounds so that he can buy a new drum kit after his disappeared from a garage.
Darren Curgenven, who has been playing drums for 15 years, was devastated when his specialist Yamaha beech kit went missing from a former bandmate’s garage in Beacon, Camborne.
He had offered a £100 reward for the drums, worth £2,000, which disappeared between September 6 and 11.
However, to his horror part of the set was found smashed to pieces on the beach at Portreath near Gull Road.
Now thanks to a Facebook appeal, headed by Pip Harbon, musicians from across Cornwall and the UK have donated £650 so that he can replace his drums.
Mr Curgenven, who has used the cash to buy a new Natal kit from Modern Music in Truro, said he was “overwhelmed” by the support from the music community.
He said: “Loads of musicians commented on Facebook and pledged their support. It’s fantastic.”
It also means that he can begin playing in a band again, a pastime that came to an abrupt end with the loss of his kit.
“I’ve had lots of offers from bands to join them, but I just want to take my time and think about what sort of music I want to play. I want to thank all those that have supported me.”
