A sixteen Year old drummer from Harrogate is amazing drum judges after being named as one of the best young drummers in the UK. George Farrah, a pupil from Harrogate Grammar school beat off stiff competition to reach the final of the prestigious Young Drummer of the Year 2015 competition.
The annual contest, which concludes on 1 February 2015 in Leamington Spa, will see finalists perform live for a judging panel comprising professional drummers and session musicians who support the world’s top pop and rock performers. George said: With hundreds of entries, the competition was tough so to reach the final ten is fantastic. I’m really looking forward to playing live in front of a prominent judging panel.
Ian Macpherson, George’s teacher who runs Harrogate based Percussive Edge, said: George has a tremendous ability and natural gift for drumming. I’m very proud of his achievements; watch out for the name George Farrah in the future! Ian has taught hundreds of students including James Cassells the 2005 Young Drummer finalist who now tours with his rock band Asking Alexandria.
Head teacher at Harrogate Grammar, Richard Sheriff, said: George is a shining example of what talent combined with hard work and dedication can achieve – he is an extraordinary musician. Every winner of the title traditionally opens the annual two day Drummer Live show in London for the UK drumming community and past winners have gone on to support acts including Billy Ward, Thomas Lang, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez and Stanton Moore.
