Primary Music Toolkit
The ISM Trust, supported by the Schools Music Association (SMA), has commissioned the Primary Music Toolkit to help primary school teachers further their self-assurance in teaching music in the classroom. The toolkit, created by Dr Ally Daubney, explores ideas about music teaching and is packed with practical help and strategies to equip primary teachers with the confidence to lead inspiring musical experiences.
“Every child has a right to music education; provision throughout the school curriculum is the only way to achieve this,” said Dr Ally Daubney, author of the Primary Music Toolkit. “The practical toolkit is designed to help all primary teachers plan and deliver exciting and relevant music education throughout children’s time in primary school.”
Deborah Annetts, chief executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians – of which the ISM Trust is a sister charity – said: “Early musical experiences are vital in every child’s education, and support for primary school teachers to better understand what music teaching is and how to bring it to life in the primary curriculum is essential.
“We hope that primary teachers find the Primary Music Toolkit, an innovative resource written by Dr Alison Daubney and delivered by the ISM Trust, effective in informing their teaching in the classroom.”
The toolkit comes in six downloadable parts, relating to:
– Setting up musical learning in the primary classroom
– Leading and developing vocal work
– A brief guide to using musical instruments
– Composing and creativity – doodling with sound
– Using technology in music primary education
– Musical learning in the creative curriculum
