Fancy a career in the music industry?

The collaboration aims to build the confidence and skills of young unemployed people in Northern Ireland who are interested in a career in the music industry. Following the launch of the Help Musicians Northern Ireland (HMNI) brand in November, the collaboration will support the NI Creative Employment Scheme, a programme which is managed by CCSkills and supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland National Lottery Fund.

The programme provides funding to employers for internships and apprenticeships within the sector and now HMNI will deliver match funding to those wishing to offer an internship in the music sector. A grant of £2,500 is available through the NI Creative Employment Scheme per application and HMNI has committed to match this with a further grant of £2,000 for up to 10 internships throughout 2017.

Creative director at Help Musicians, said: “Our launch in Northern Ireland has given us the opportunity to invest in the infrastructure surrounding the music industry. “By subsidising these internships we can contribute towards a more stable and sustainable environment focusing on those roles that support music makers across the region.

“This new partnership with CCSkills will mean that both of our organisations can reach more talented people to achieve their ambitions in the music industry.”

Nations director of Creative and Cultural Skills, added: “It can be incredibly difficult to land that first paid job within the creative industries. We know the sector is under financial pressure but through the NI Creative Employment Programme, finance is available for organisations in the creative industries to employ apprentices and interns for totally new posts. “The aim is to support both our growing creative economy and promote a fairer and more diverse sector.” Deadlines for applications are 27th January 2017, 7th April 2017 and 16th June 2017.
