Steven Adler Back On Stage With Guns N’ Roses

Thursday, July 14th, 2016

Earlier this week, the current Guns N’ Roses lineup came one step closer to mirroring their Appetite for Destruction era when drummer Steven Adler sat in for a pair of songs in Cincinnati. But it now appears as though Adler’s addition is not just as a one-off special guest, as he also was with the band when they played in Nashville Saturday night (July 9).

Like the Cincinnati show, Guns N’ Roses powered through a good portion of their show before welcoming Adler to the stage. He once again sat in behind the kit on the songs “Out Ta Get Me” and “My Michelle,” which come a little bit before the encore within the pacing of the show.

There had been talk of Adler negotiating to be part of the current Guns N’ Roses lineup back in the spring, but he also suffered a back injury around the time of the group’s April Fool’s Day debut in Los Angeles which had kept him out of action until the Cincinnati date. Adler was a member of the band’s classic lineup from 1985 through 1990. He was kicked out of the band due to his excessive drug use, playing his last show with GN’R on April 7, 1990. In the years since, the drummer had been one of the most vocal advocates for reuniting the classic lineup. It is not known if Adler will be on board for the remainder of the “Not in This Lifetime” summer tour or if there is a limit to the number of shows he’ll be playing.

So far, the only holdout from the classic Appetite era has been guitarist Izzy Stradlin, who has publicly stated that he is not involved in the reunion. However, Stradlin was the first Appetite lineup player to sit in with Axl Rose‘s reconstructed Guns lineup of the 2000s. Stradlin has been working on solo material of late.
