The young drummer of the year competition has become a major career platform for many of today’s young working drummers including Dexter Hercules (Olly Murs) Jen Ledger (Skillet), Pauli (Damon Albarn), AKA George (solo artist), Brad Webb (Jamie Cullum), Stephen Asamoah-Duah (The Compozers), Tristan Evans (The Vamps) and many more. It was set up to showcase the amazing young drumming talent in the UK. 2016 brings three new sponsors to the event with Tama drums, Zildjian cymbals and Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM).
Ian Aguado-Bush (Product manager for Tama and Zildjian UK) said, “I’ve been a fan of this event for years! Being a drummer myself, helping young drummers find their way in the industry and develop their ability has always been a career goal of mine, which is why I’m so honoured to be able to support Young Drummer Of The Year”.
Rick Van Oppen (Zildjian cymbals) said, “We are proud to be part of such a great initiative and supporting an event that is promoting drumming in general and pushing the next generation to get the best out of themselves. Zildjian strongly believes in education and supporting drumming for children and adolescents to express themselves musically. It is our obligation to make sure drumming is being promoted and our products will be used by players of all ages. Zildjian can’t wait to see which great players this competition will yield to make it to the next level”
Ace, ACM’s Head of creative industry development, says “Young Drummer of the Year is another great example of how we are able to encourage the next generation of drummers and performers.
