Drummer Ringo Wanted a Beatles Reunion
My Drum Lessons has been informed that in a brand new interview, Ringo Starr has expressed regret that the Beatles didn’t reunite before the death of John Lennon in 1980. Drummer Starr revealed that the individual band members had discussed the possibility of reuniting, but never got around to doing it: “We did it in twos – we talked about it. The stumbling block was sitting around and saying, ‘Okay, let’s do it.’
“I think if we’d just relaxed behind it long enough, we still had the songs and we could still play. We could have put it together.”
Starr also noted that the band, who retired from touring in 1966 because of the limitations of live sound, could have performed more complicated numbers if they got back together: “With what you have now, we could have got it together. We could have done ‘A Day in the Life.’ Of course, it’s ended now.”
Surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are set to reunite at this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. McCartney will induct Starr in recognition of his solo work.
