My Drum Lessons Taiko Drumming Course In Glasgow
My Drum Lessons is pleased to be able to offer our teachers and their students a Taiko drumming course. This is an energetic, physical and highly choreographed art form which has thrilled audiences worldwide. Originally from Japan, this traditional folk art is developing and spreading as a modern European art-form. The performers and teachers with the Dojo are among the UK’s leading players in this art-form, many of whom tour with Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers.
Dates: Starting Monday 19 January for 10 weeks
19 January – 23 March 2015.
We do also have a further course starting on Monday 13 April.
Participants start with the fundamentals, and learn a taiko drumming piece in just 10 weeks. There are two course options:
Mondays 6:30 – 8:00 pm – Kitsune Daiko
This is a performance piece based on the uplifting and playful “shichisan” rhythm, named after the “kitsune” fox, popular in Japanese traditional folklore.
Mondays 8:15 – 9:45 pm – Buchiawase
In this course we will be learning the challenging “fighting taiko” from Kanagawa Prefecture. This course is more suitable for those with experience although newcomers are welcome.
The standard course fee is £120 for the 10-week course, with a special price for 16-25 year olds of £70. The course fee can be paid by posting a cheque, by credit / debit card on our web shop but please do check first if there are spaces available – email@example.com or 01357 522 008.
AFTER THE COURSE
Many of our current players, and even our full-time professional players, have started their path in taiko drumming with a course such as this one. If you’re interested in taking your training further and joining one of our performing groups, in March we will be conducting auditions to join our training programme with the Mugen Taiko Dojo.
