Daft Punk Will Perform at the Grammys With Drummer Omar Hakim

Monday, January 6th, 2014

It was already an exciting announcement that Daft Punk would be performing at the 2014 Grammy Awards, but now it seems as though they are adding some impressive collaborators for the event.

According to drummer Omar Hakim, who worked with Daft Punk on multiple tracks for Random Access Memories, he is now on board and will be working alongside Pharrell, Nile Rodgers and the one and only Stevie Wonder.

The news about Daft Punk’s appearance was slightly unexpected but greatly appreciated, as Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich told Rolling Stone in December.

“We learned that because they had such a good experience with us when they appeared with Kanye in 2008, they were happy to discuss a performance on this year’s show,” Ehrlich said. “Conversations took place over a period of a couple of months, and finally they agreed to be a part of this year’s telecast. Details of the performance are still being worked out, but the idea of having the exclusive television performance by this iconic band is something we’re very, very excited about.”

With the edition of Hakim, Pharrell, Rodgers, Wonder and a live band, this performance is a promising way to make up for the fact that Daft Punk hasn’t performed anything from Random Access Memories live since its release.
