Trinity College London’s new Drum Kit and Percussion syllabus
The new 2014-2016 Drum Kit and Percussion syllabus from Trinity College London is now available to order and download and will be valid from January 2014 to December 2016.
For Drum Kit there is a brand new set of books containing pieces and exercises, along with a new mark scheme and the introduction of Musical Knowledge into the Supporting Tests (for Grades 1-5).
For Tuned Percussion, Snare Drum and Timpani, there are refreshed repertoire lists. All current Trinity publications will remain valid for the length of the syllabus and Technical Work and Supporting Tests remain the same.
New Drum Kit books (Grades 1-8)
A brand new suite of four Drum Kit books and CDs for Grades 1-8 are now available and include exciting arrangements of classics along with newly composed pieces and exercises. The pieces feature contributions from drum legends including Dave Weckl, Ralph Salmins and Troy Miller, as well as arrangements of jazz standards such as Satin Doll by Duke Ellington.
Books 1, 2 and 3 are available from your local music retailer and from Trinity’s online shop. You can pre-order book 4, which will be available in January, from now.
The popular Introducing Drum Kit, written by George Double, is still available, and takes players through the early steps of learning drum kit notation via a series of simple exercises and performance pieces.
Free Drum Kit Workshops
Trinity/Guildhall have also announced that they are running a series of workshops for teachers on the new syllabus – all are welcome. To find out more about these and register, please visit their website where the sessions can be found under Music -> Trinity Workshops.
