Grant Hutchison

Drummer’s Capital Cycle Tour For Niece

Monday, November 11th, 2013

The drummer with popular Scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit is laying down his sticks for a marathon 1100-mile cycle ride taking in five capital cities in 12 days.

Grant Hutchison, 28, is helping to raise money towards research into a rare illness that has affected his toddler niece.

Morven Hutchison, who lives in West Linton, Peeblesshire, has cystinosis – a condition that affects only 15 people in Scotland.

The three-year-old has coped well so far with the complications it brings. But there is no known cure for the illness which can prevent body cells from functioning properly and reduces life expectancy to little further than early adulthood.

On May 11, Grant along with his brother Neil and eight friends will leave Edinburgh on their way to London. From there they will pedal to Wales and through Cardiff before crossing the Irish Sea to Dublin.

After making their way up the east coast of Ireland to Belfast the group will ferry over to Stranraer before heading up the home straight to Edinburgh.

Grant from Selkirk in the Borders, said:”My ¬≠motivation for doing the cycle is my niece Morven.

“I have not been a keen cyclist for long but I certainly have the bug now and can’t wait to get started.”
