Drummer Matt Sorum Testifies Before Congress

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

One of the more surprising trends in drumming is the sheer number of famous drummers testifying before Congress to lobby for arts funding. First it was Chad Smith who last month appealed to U.S. Senators to support music education in schools. And today former Guns ’N Roses/Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum joined virtuoso cellist Yo-Yo Ma to plead the case for funding of the arts.

They appeared together in support of American For The Arts, a group dedicated to restoring funding for the National Endowment For The Arts and the National Endowment For The Humanities to its previous level of $155 million. That sum was cut to $146 million last year and has suffered a further $7 million cut due to the automatic budget cuts triggered by the sequester.
